Winter Olympics – Max Style

IMG_3500

Oh to be a student in Max’s classroom.  In celebration of winter and the Olympics…

They have gone figure skating … tying wax paper to their shoes and “skating” on the rug.

They have gone skiing … tying wax paper on their shoes, holding 2 broomstick handles and “skiing” down a mat which was elevated to give the effect of skiing down a mountain.

They also went ice fishing in the water table using fishing rods, fish and a box covered with aluminum foil and a large hole in the middle.

and today they played hockey with hockey sticks and a puck.  Max was goalie and blocked the puck most times!!

Art Doll Workshop

Desktop Sunday, 14 March
9:00 - 4:00 pm
Danbury Plaza Hotel, 18 Old Ridgebury Road, Danbury, CT
This class is suitable for any level, including beginners

The Cobbler's Daughter lives in an old ramshackle house in a small seaside village. She lives with her father, the Cobbler and helps him each day repair the shoes of the villagers...

The Cobbler's Daughter was created by Ellen and exhibited at the International Quilt Festival in the first year that they had a doll exhibition, curated by vibrant doll maker Elinor Peace Bailey. The doll was also published in the first edition of Stampington and Company's Art Doll Quarterly.

In 2003 she reinvented herself and discovered her Inner Goddess

Goddess (4791 x 6588)

Goddess/God'dess/n.

  1. A female being of supernatural powers or attributes believed in and worshipped by a people
  2. A female being believed to be the source of life and being worshipped as the principal deity
  3. A woman of superior charms and excellence.
  4. A female deity

In this class we are reminded how throughout the ages women have nurtured and healed the universe. We take time to discover and nourish the goddess that lurks within. In this class we will celebrate your goddess with construction methods that vary from simple shapes that can be embellished to more complex designs.

Choose from many pattern pieces or develop your own. You'll be amazed seeing the spirit of the dolls take shape as you learn to stuff, create the face, hair and costume. Just by manipulating fabric and embellishment, there will be no 2 alike.
Regally standing at approximately 23 inches, it matters not whether you wish to create a daughter of a cobbler or indeed strip her bare...there is a goddess in us all and Ellen has a magical way of helping you find her.

This class is designed for everyone, not just doll makers.

It's a great way to remind us how to let our hair down and play.

Sun on snow capped trees

In the early hours of dawn, we paused a moment to breathe.  IMG_3255

The trees heavy with their burden of soft snow.

IMG_3247

Not even the whisper of wind could change the color of the snow covered branches that we can see from out our bedroom window.

IMG_3245

The swing lay idle, the slippery dip covered.  Even my sunshine wall art was barely visible.

IMG_3246

Carved to an inch of the rail, the snow sat regal, almost daring you to poke your finger in and sweep it off its perch.

IMG_3257

As the sun rose, the blue sky reflected its hue across the piles of snow created by ploughs and humans.

It is indeed a happy day and taking a moment to breathe it in is what we should do.

Has it really been a week?

It is 6.36am on Saturday morning and I sit, waiting for the massive snow storm that was supposedly coming.  It is at these early hours (I have been getting up at 4am) that I think about my Dad and how he would rise early to start his day.  It is very peaceful at this hour and allows me to breathe.

Today is meant to be a big day.  Max starts (mummy and me) swimming lessons – I am so excited about getting into my cozzie on a day that is meant to be below zero.  Rose is performing in a local production – she is an old lady that sleeps on stage for the most part of the show – obviously her ability to fake sleep has been discovered.  Then it is off to her school for a dress rehearsal with all the girls for their school production leaving the boys to trash the place play.

This time last Saturday I was dressed and ready to rock and roll with my art girls at “heART of winter” in Warwick.  It has become a much anticipated tradition of ours to attend Jen’s shows every Winter and Spring and catch up with all the girls.EA1

The 3rd annual "heART of winter" was a fabulous gathering of art, and artful spirits. The Girls - Artists Laurie Meseroll, Jennifer Lanne, Diana Card, Nicole Bowen, Jill Wiener and Dara DiMagno were in attendance...adding their style and savvy to the show.

I am now the lucky owner of one of Dara’s necklaces – given to me by the Engineer on Dec 22…and I am yet to have a day when I don’t wear it.

Jen and her team created the most wonderful world within the charming Warwick Antique Barn.

Me, and the talented Mrs Pom, Earth Angel Laurie Meseroll and gorgeous (and quietly talented) Kathy Nesi….just moments before this beautiful girl below was packed into my car and taken to her new home with Mrs Pom.  It was just like watching a little girl get her first barbie doll.

The Knitting Mermaid – at 36 x 48 she now welcomes all visitors to her new home and how lucky is Mrs. Pom that no matter what kind of day she has had, this is what she sees the moment she walks in the door – the best tonic a girl could ask for!

So now it is 7.05 and nobody is awake…still…which is actually a record.  I am on to my 3rd cup of coffee…living in NY will do that to you, so I will bid farewell for now and go and find my cozzie…hoping that it has not perished in all the wrong places.
