Happy Halloween

Off to school today - guess what we went as with three of our friends. I impatiently wait for the group photo! Then home again to change for a girl's night in at her friend's home - cooking brownies, watching movies and the wonderful sleepover!

I am glad it is over for another year? Why? you ask...Well Max has taken a liking to finding people's pumpkins and trying to pick them up and throw them! Complete with the grunts and groans, he has been found lifting and rolling the neighborhood displays.

Max had a lovely day at school and came home with his own little bag of treats. Tonight he has been helping me answer the door to all the little halloween visitors and of course helping himself to the bowl of candy each time!

I love this time of the year. It is bright. It is orange. It is happy.

Gran - Day 21

Well it is Sunday and I am in New York but Gran is on her way out of here. Neil had to bring the bags onto the check in counter because she could barely lift them - you know it is desperate when we have to leave the box of bisquick and box of chocolate brownie mix behind ... sorry Kel...you will have to wait until Christmas. The check in guy said - "Can I have both passports please!"..."No No" said the son-in-law..."just making sure she actually gets on the plane".

We had a wonderful time together. Granny landed with both feet firmly on the ground and was off to an excellent start in week one with the freezer starting to fill, the Engineer's ironing completed and her ribbon purchase achieved.

Week Two saw her immersed in classes at Art Is You with all the girls there welcoming her with open arms. She felted, beaded, bashed tin cans and quite openly said "I will now look at junk in a whole new light"! She set tables, packed folders, tied ribbons, and made crowns. Back home to do the washing, more cooking, get Max on and off the yellow bus and of course pumpkin picking on a day which most New Yorkers would not consider "cold" but that did not stop her from exclaiming "I would be the first person to die of cold if I was stranded anywhere"! Loving Engineer pointed out that this would be ok because everyone could then eat her and survive. Of course the fact that her fingers turned white and numb from being out in the fields, might have had something to do with her statement! But she soldiered on like any good Codral cold girl would!

Week Three saw us covering a few of the local stores, assisting with clothing purchases for Flossy followed by a day in the city to see Wicked. Mum took Rose and her friend Meg. They had a lovely dinner and then saw the show. Picked up by The Engineer and home again. The next morning, it was pancakes for one and all whilst I went to work!

Yesterday Mum and I took off to NYC - visited Tinsel Trading's new home (fabulous), then down the road to Macys, then on the subway to Pearl Paint to get special paint brushes for special friends. Then back on the train and home to the family. Dinner with one of Max's Three godmothers and her family ended our Saturday evening beautifully.

Today was a quiet day, popping into the other Godmothers (lucky boy he is) for coffee in the morning, then she came home and washed the sheets and the towels. I had to make lunch (shock-horror) and we set her up with the Hallmark channel, a cup of tea, my newest cloth paper scissors and there she remained until an hour ago, when we blew her kisses, promised to bring the bisquick and brownie mix for our "darling" cousins and sent her on her way in the car with The Engineer (lucky gran!).

So I close with a little memory video of our time with mum. We truly did have a wonderful time, ate delicious food and were able to (just) hold her back from getting us packed for December!

Gran - Day 1

After a delayed arrival, which meant I had to consume at least 8 cups of coffee to stay up past my 8.00pm bedtime, Granny arrived back on NY soil! Two incredibly heavy bags which were promptly emptied by Rose and Max this morning!

Note - these are only a few of the 25 packets of Tim Tams ...

The Engineer's favorite choccie and Granny always remembers!

There was so much that I had to put it all in the clothes basket and of course Max could not miss the opportunity of being a part of the treat basket!

Then it was off to Costco where we picked up ribbons, ribbons, ribbons (someone asked Mum if she owned a gift shop!) Plus supplies for all the frozen dinners. Home again for a big sleep (for Gran and Max) and then up for cooking, beer, wheel of fortune, dancing with the stars and back to bed. It is now all quiet on the NY front and very nice knowing there is a large Vat of pancake mix ready and waiting for tomorrow morning.

Ready For Gran

Well I think we are ready! I have been in a dilemma....do I tidy and clean and make everything just right? or do I just leave everything as is? The first means she has an arrival that allows her to sit and read a book the second means she has an arrival where she has to just get stuck into it and get us organized with no time for book reading!!

We have chosen both options. Bed made, Towels clean, teapot at the ready. Even the Goddess was concerned that Gran would have a freak at the Bisquick so she prepared the Pancake Supply Jar. If you have not had my mother's pancakes, you have not had pancakes!

But we are (deliberately) down to our last roll of toilet paper, we have no paper towels, the freezer is empty and Neil has counted out 15 coathangers to go with the 15 shirts.... Even the tupperware is all clean (and empty)...

I am so glad she will be joining us at Art Is...You in CT, then we are going to go to the Wool and Sheep Festival of NY, pumpkin picking, apple picking (so she can make stewed apple) and of course she is looking forward to Costco!

It is the simple things in life that my mother loves and nothing makes her happier than making sure her family is well cared for. Something she has done for over 40 years and now she is turning around and doing it all again for her grand children, who have learnt (particularly the older ones) that there are things that you don't even bother asking your mother for / or to do - they go straight to Gran.

Of course with Gran here, it means Papa and Mill hold the fort back home but it will not be long until we are setting up the Christmas tree, waiting for Santa and getting six cups of tea made for us on Christmas morning!

Have a happy Sunday. Ring your Mum and tell her you love her!

ISA World Circle of Loved and Remembered Babies

Daisy, Grace and Master Frankie are forever in my heart. Each one born after much struggle. Each held for a brief moment in time. Each kissed by their parents. Each blessed and baptised lovingly. Each loved eternally.

The month of October is recognised globally as pregnancy and infant loss remembrance month. This year, for the first time, ISA is encouraging parents to acknowledge and remember their baby on the ISA website to form a global link of babies. Writing a loving message about a special baby is one way to create a beautiful memory.

If you’d like to take part in this glorious effort to signify an international bonding of babies circling the globe, please visit the website, International Stillbirth Alliance -Circle of Babies.
